Curse the Day by Annabel Chase
She's a witch?! That's news
to Emma. She's also trapped in the
magical town of Spellbound.
Paranormal cozy mystery .... 281 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(I loved Emma and the other supernatural inhabitants of Spellbound; and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.)
Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson
To Do list:
Clean out dad's house ✓
Finish dissertation ✓
Don't fall in love with Sam.
Contemporary romance .... 334 pages .... 4.5/5 stars.
(Humorous and cute. Phoebe's random trivia about serial killers made me laugh, and I loved Sam!)
Be My Ghost by Carol J. Perry
Maureen inherits
Haven House Inn with all its
ghosts .... and a murder.
Mystery .... 274 pges .... 2.5/5 stars.
(Sadly, I did not love this one: the pacing was slow, not a lot happens for a long time--though she does walk her dog a lot--and the ending was rushed.)
Happy Reading!
The first two sound like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteThey were! :D
DeleteI agree with Cath, above, the first two sound soooo good!
ReplyDeleteThey're both thoroughly enjoyable books. :)
DeleteThe first book sounds good to me. Bummer about the third book though, since the premise looks promising.
ReplyDeleteThe premise was so promising on that one, but it just ended up being a little boring.
DeleteThese are cute review, Lark. I like the sounds of the first two. I have passed on Carol J Perry's last few books for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteSo she's probably not an author to try again.
DeleteTwo out of three is not bad. The Thompson book seems to be very popular lately.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of reviews of the Thompson book around, too. I thought it was a fun romance.
DeleteThe first two sound really good! I almost bought Be My Ghost recently but am glad I passed on it. I have a hard time with slow paced mysteries.
ReplyDeleteI got so frustrated because I felt like the main character wasn't doing much beyond walking her dog and changing her clothes. Then it wrapped up really fast at the end.
DeleteFun! I like the sound of supernatural cozies- I always like a little supernatural element in my stories- and Serial Killers I've been seeing lots of great reviews for!
ReplyDeleteThat supernatural element in a mystery, or a romance, is one that I always enjoy. :D
DeleteI've had my eye on Love in the Time of Serial Killers. Glad it was a good one.
ReplyDeleteTruly in awe of your quick reviews. :)
Thank you! I have fun writing them. :D
DeleteI love these so much!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteThe first one sounds especially fun, but library only has it as an audio book!
ReplyDeleteI hate when that happens!
DeleteYour haiku reviews are so creative and fun!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy writing them...although they don't work for every book.
DeleteLove the haiku for Love in the Time of Serial Killers -- just perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a fun read. :D
DeleteAs always, I absolutely love your haikus.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a similar book to your second one: "Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village". LOL
I hope it's a good one! It certainly sounds like a fun read.
DeleteIt does. Thanks.
DeleteGreat reviews, Lark! I need to make sure I read at leas one spooky book this month! Time is getting away from me.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there's only one week left in October! This month has sure gone by fast.
DeleteThese are so great, as always!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThird post I've read today with fantasy. They look good for the season.
ReplyDeleteThe first one especially was a lot of fun. :D
DeleteDang! BE MY GHOST sounds fun, but there needs to be a lot more happening than dog walking to keep my attention. Especially in a mystery. Thanks for the warning.
ReplyDeleteThe premise sounded so good, but then it just dragged. I almost stopped reading it.
DeleteI have Love in the Time of Serial Killers on my Kindle. I really need to get to it. It sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteI really liked it. :D
DeleteI am glad I did not miss your haiku reviews.
ReplyDeleteLove in the Time of Serial Killers sounds the most appealing to me, although in general I do avoid books about serial killers. In this case, it seems the approach is more light-hearted?
It is...and it's not actually about serial killers. It's just that Phoebe is doing her dissertation on the relationship between true crime writers and their subjects, so there's a lot of talk about different serial killers in it. But it's done in a way that totally made me laugh.
DeleteThe only book I've read is Be My Ghost which I liked a lot more than you (though I definitely see your points) but I really want to read Love in the Time of Serial Killers. It looks like a fun one.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a very fun romance, even though Phoebe is a bit of an anxious character at times.
DeleteI love this! I absolutely loved Sam in Love in the Time of Serial Killers.
ReplyDeleteSam was so great, wasn't he? :D
DeleteYour haiku for Love in the Time of Serial Killers is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks! That was a fun book. :D
