Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's theme is Forgotten Backlist Titles.

Here are ten twelve books I love that no one really talks about any more, but that are definitely still worth checking out.

On Bear Mountain by Deborah Smith

Green Rider by Kristen Britain

Words by Ginny L.Yttrup

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry

The Girls at 17 Swann Street by Yara Zgheib

Drenched in Light by Lisa Wingate

The Shipping News by Annie Proulx

Coastliners by Joanne Harris

The Magic of Ordinary Days by Ann Howard Creel

The Passion Dream Book by Whitney Otto

Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns

Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott

Happy Reading!

  2. I've read other books by some of these authors (Whitney Otto, Joanne Harris), but none of the ones you've included, and I'm intrigued! I've never heard of that Lisa Wingate book either, and I've definitely enjoyed her more recent books. On Bear Mountain just caught my eye too -- I want to know more about it!

    1. I love On Bear Mountain! It's such a good story. And Drenched in Light is about a ballet dancer, which is something that always makes me want to read that book. :D

  3. THE LACE READER!!! I will never forget that book. I've read it at least three times and find something new each time. I love that you're spotlighting it today.

    1. It's one of my favorite fantasy novels. I'm just sorry the sequel wasn't nearly as good.

  6. I read The Shipping News but don't remember the plot details very well anymore. Wasn't that one kind of dark? Seems that most of her novels tend to be a little on the dark side. Love the cover of Words...that's enough to make me curious about what's on the inside now.

    1. There are some depressing things that happen in The Shipping News, and the setting was a little bleak at the beginning, but overall I remember Quoyle's journey being fairly hopeful and heartwarming in the end. But it's been so long since I read it I don't remember it very well either.

  7. I haven't read any of these books or anything by the authors. I will have to pick at least one to try.

  8. I remember The Lace Reader as I'd seen some readers raved about it on their blogs when it was released. And Ghostwalk sounds intriguing.

    1. The Lace Reader is one of those books that you finish and immediately want to go back and read again because of that completely unexpected twist at the end!

  9. I also plan to pick out one of these books to read and I decided to take this quiz too. It's a great way to remind ourselves of the forgotten books we loved and go back to those authors.

  10. Oh what a coincidence, I just saw Ghostwalk at an estate sale last week; I hadn't heard of it but the title + bold cover intrigued me. Didn't get it, because the length scared me off and I have no idea when I'd actually get to it, but thought I might go look for at the library.

Kudos to your picks because other than The Shipping News, I have indeed never heard of any of these.

    1. It's funny how quickly books can go from being talked about and hyped to completely ignored and unnoticed. It's just sad when it happens to such good ones.

  11. I read "The Shipping News" many years ago - I guess when it first came out. But I confess I've not read any of the others. In fact, I blush to say there are some on your list that I'd never even heard of. My loss, no doubt.

    1. I liked Ghostwalk. I read it way before I joined Goodreads where it doesn't get a very high rating, though I'm not sure why. And I hope you do get a chance to read The Lace Reader. That book is amazing.
