Haiku Reviews...

Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez

She  brings him joy. He's
her calm in the storm. It's love--
but she might be dying.

Romance .... 350 pages .... 4.5/5 stars.
(Poignant and funny. I loved Vanessa's and Adrian's relationship!)

Roots of Wood and Stone by Amanda Wen

A historic home,
an old diary, and faith
lead to love and family.

Romance .... 280 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(I really enjoyed Garrett's and Sloane's relationship, and the whole family history aspect of this one. Thanks for recommending this one, Cindy.)

High Country Justice by Nik James

Marlowe straps on his guns
to save Doc and his daughter from
a group of outlaws.

Western .... 272 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(Sometimes I'm just in the mood for an action-filled Western where the good guy wins.)

Happy Reading!

  2. You're on a reading streak! I've been quite productive during these summer months too. I almost need to change by blog to be two books a week lol.

    1. :D I have time off in the summer, and since I didn't end up taking any vacations this time, I ended up with a lot of reading time instead. Which I haven't minded.

  3. A Western! My grandpa used to have Zane Greys. Every once in a while I feel like a Western!

    1. I do, too! I like Zane Grey, but my favorite western author is probably Louis L'Amour. :D

    2. I read L'amour's The Walking Drum and loved it, even though it's not a western. I should read more of him and Grey.

  4. Nicely done...as usual. Somehow, the fact that you're reading a western makes me smile. Sometimes I feel like The Lone Ranger when I review one of those. :-)

    1. I don't know why I don't read more westerns, because I do really enjoy them. Maybe because they just don't publish as many, so I'm not as aware of them??? Who knows. But this one was good.

    1. I put Roots of Wood and Stone on my TBR list in 2022 because of Cindy's recommendation...it's only taken me over a year to finally read it. ;D

  9. Oh, I hope Vanessa isn't really dying! Don't like sad endings, but it looks like you enjoyed it. I like the sound of High Country Justice! I like it when the good guys win, too. Wonderful reviews, Lark! :)

    1. The ending of Life's Too Short is not sad, so don't worry. It will leave you smiling. (Though parts of the book may make you cry, too.)

    1. Nik James is a new author to me, too--they're a husband and wife writing team, which I thought was fun.

  13. Top two both look really good and I will keep the third in mind for when I feel like a Western where the good guy wins! I usually enjoy that in movie format but book format might be fun!

    1. If you've never read a western you should try at least one sometime. They can be a lot of fun. :D

  14. I always enjoy your haiku reviews. At this point I could not condense my thoughts to that length but I may some day aim at three sentences. That is what my husband used to do, when he reviewed books on Goodreads.

    1. I do it because most days I can't make myself write a longer review....just can't seem to find the words. ;D

  15. Love the haiku reviews! I have heard about Abby Jimenez before but haven't tried her books but I like the sound of this one and the Amanda Wen book too. Westerns I'm not really into although back in the day when I used to read a lot more historical romances I did enjoy a western setting!
