Some bookish fun in 2021...

The Unruly Reader has once again put out a fun Book Bingo card. I always love bookish bingo because I love finding books to fill the different categories, reading them, and then crossing off the matching square. Here are her categories for this year:

There's also an explanation of each book bingo category on the Unruly Reader's blog here if you want to know more about any of the categories. I think I'm most excited about the Quest, Survival and Unconventional squares myself. The Explorer and Edwardian categories could be a lot of fun, too. And what's nice about bookish bingo is that you don't have to post about the books you read if you don't want to, or link up your reviews; it's mostly just for fun. And you can go for a bingo, or for blackout, or for the four corner squares--whatever you want. So if you want to join in, just head over to Unruly Reader's blog and leave a comment on her bingo post. I don't know if I'll manage to read a book for every category this year, or if I'll even try, but just thinking about Book Bingo always makes me smile.

Giving up!

First of all you should know that I'm a huge fan of reading bingo:  I love finding books that fit each category, and filling in each and every square. And for the past couple of years Stacey at Unruly Reader has created a super fun book bingo card. And I've always gone for blackout. Until this year. With six categories left to fill on my card, I'm officially giving up. No book bingo blackout for me in 2017. I know there's still time before the end of the year, and that I could probably push and get it done, but frankly, I'm running out of steam. And there are other books I'd rather read more.

Here's the card I started off with:

And the books I read that fill the 19 categories I did manage to complete:

POP PSYCHOLOGY:  Aim True by Kathryn Budig
OUTLAW:  Surviving Home by A. American
DOOM AND GLOOM:  Lights Out by Ted Koppel
A BOOK I OWN:  Dance Night by Dawn Powell
WHERE I GREW UP:  Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall
CREATIVITY: Good Mail Day: A Primer For Making Eye-Popping Postal Art
by Jennie Hinchcliff and Carolee G. Wheeler
GUILTY PLEASURE: The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Harper
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS: The Semester of Our Discontent by Cynthia Kuhn
AUTHOR'S NAME BEGINS WITH M: Arrowood by Laura McHugh
BEST IN CLASS: Lost by Michael Robotham
THE OUTDOORS: My Last Continent by Midge Raymond
HOT: The Definition of Wind by Ellen Block

And here are the six categories that will remain unread by me this year:
INDIGENOUS PEOPLE:
(Even though I own Russell Mean's autobiography Where White Men Fear To Tread,
which has been sitting on my shelf for years and years waiting to be read.)
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS FICTION PRIZE:
(Even though I found and bought a copy of Marilynne Robinson's Lila at a library
book sale just for this bingo category; it now sits in my room also waiting to be read.)
BOOMER LIT:
(I never had a book in mind for this category.)
ASIA:
(This category should've been an easy one for me seeing how much I love
Haruki Murakami and other Japanese writers, but...)
BAD TITLE:
(This also sounds deceptively easy...but every book I attempted to read
that fit the category ended up being too bad to finish. So...)
MID-CENTURY MODERN:
(Didn't even try!)

There you have it. My 2017 reading bingo journey. I did enjoy the books I read. And I had fun! And that's all that matters, right? Maybe next year I'll try for blackout again. Until then...

Bookish Bingo!

Thanks to The Unruly Reader there's a new reading bingo card for 2017 with 25 fun new squares to fill. Well, 22 of the categories look like a lot of fun; 3 of them are going to be a bit of a challenge for me:  Mid-Century Modern, Boomer Lit, and the Library of Congress Fiction Prize. I'm not looking forward to those. But ALL the others should be fairly easy to read and complete. I can't explain why, but I love filling in each bingo square with the books that I read. In fact, bookish bingo is one of my favorite things. If you've never tried it before, check out Unruly Reader's explanation of each of the different squares, print out your own Bingo card, and play along. You can go for a simple bingo, or for reading bingo blackout. Either way, it's loads of fun!

Reading Bingo 2016!

It's another great reading bingo card from Unruly Reader! There are a lot of fun squares, and a few challenging ones, too. The Children's Classic, Beach Read, Adventure and Twisted squares will be the easiest to fill; finding books I want to read for Music, Spies, and Suburban Ennui might be a little trickier. But going for bookish bingo blackout every year is one of my favorite things.

Print out a card and play along!
It's A LOT of bookish fun.

Reading Bingo!

Check it out! It's a new bookish Bingo card from Unruly Reader. You can pick one row of squares and read for bingo, or fill all 25 squares and go for blackout. It's a fun and different way to track what you read, and it just might expand your reading horizons, too. The Unruly Reader gives explanations and suggestions for each category on her blog, as well as a printable version of the card. I love reading bingo. It's one of my favorite bookish things. And I'm excited about most of the categories on this Bingo card, although a few of them worry me a little. Like the Book of Essays and a Cult Classic. Those will be a challenge for me, but I'm still going for blackout.

So, print out a Bingo card and play along.

Bookish Bingo...

Wanna play some reading Bingo with the books you read this year? Check it out... Random House has Printable Bingo Cards (with a different Bingo card available for YA readers). Read a book and fill in a square. What could be easier? Or more fun?

Isn't this idea great? I love it so much I've decided going for a simple Bingo isn't enough...I'm going for blackout. After all, there are only 24 squares to fill out (48 if you play YA Bingo, too), and I've got all year. (I've already filled in 5 of the easier squares.) There are a few categories that worry me though, like having to read a book of short stories, or a book with non-human characters. Those will definitely be a challenge. Got any suggestions? As for the rest, they should be fairly easy to complete. So print out a card and play some bookish bingo this year, too!
