Randomness...

Recently won this book from Goodreads:
Eddy Johnson, Book Dealer by John Wiley. And I really enjoyed reading it! With a nod to classic noir fiction, this book is both clever and fast-paced fun. It's set in Austin, Texas, in the 1980s. Local book dealer, Eddy Johnson, is personable, quick-thinking, and resourceful. And lucky! I liked him from page one. And I loved the crazy world of book dealers, collectors, mobsters, blackmail and shady deals that Wiley creates in this entertaining mystery. This was a 4-star read for me. And I hope that Wiley writes many more books about Eddy Johnson!

Classic I hope to read in June:  Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

Other books I just checked out of the library:
     Devoted by Dean R. Koontz
Lone Jack Trail by Owen Laukkanen
A Happy Catastrophe by Maggie Dawson
     Whiteout by Ragnar Jonasson
The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
The English Bookshop by Janis Wildy
Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Robotham
To Win Her Heart by Karen Witemeyer
Horseman: a tale of Sleepy Hollow by Christina Henry
     Primordial by David Wood

A favorite game of mine:  Star Realms

This game is both easy to learn and very fun to play. There's even a cooperative game-playing option if you want to work together as a team. My nephew, Daniel, taught me how to play it, and I immediately loved it. If you're looking for a new game this summer to play as a family, I recommend this one.

And one last quote now that it's June and summer has begun:

Happy Summer...and Happy Reading!

  3. Longfellow's "summer" actually describes spring where I live. Summer? Uh, not so much!

    1. I've won a few books through Goodreads, and I feel very lucky each time I do because I'm not a person who wins things in life usually, you know?

  5. Great post, Lark. I hope you will enjoy all your June reads. You could have made that into a Top Ten Tuesday. ;)

Far From the Madding Crowd is still on my wishlist.

Thanks for visiting my TTT this week which is a little different.

    1. I could've done it as a TTT, couldn't I? I always seem to think of things like that too late. Oh, well. I had fun with this randomness post. :)

    2. It doesn't matter what title you give a post, as long as we enjoy it. And I know I always do.

  6. I recently listened to an audiobook about an obsessive book collector/thief- it had a lot about book dealers, too. I wonder how much is similar in Book Dealer! And I've been wanting to read Far from the Madding Crowd for a very long time. Really curious to hear what you think of it.

    1. Sad! I hate when my library doesn't have what I want to read. But they've actually been really good about purchasing book requests, which I really appreciate. :)

  10. A noir mystery with a bookshop owner sounds fab. Enjoy your stack of library books. Didn't realize Christina Henry tackled the Headless Horseman tale... I want to read a few classics this summer, but not sure what direction the mood will take me.
Love the imagery in the Longfellow poem.

  17. OMG, someone actually won a GoodReads giveaway! I enter so many, and never win, so I just assumed no one ever won :) Congrats! Hope it's a winner of a book as well.

Far from the Madding Crowd is an excellent classic. One of my favorites--and the movies tend to be good as well. Gabriel Oak is a perfect hero, imo. Hope you like it.

    1. I'm excited to read Far From the Madding Crowd, and then I want to watch the most recent movie version of it. And I couldn't believe I won a book from Goodreads either, because I never win anything. But I got lucky. And if I can win, anyone can! :D

  18. Fun winning a book from Goodreads! I think I've only won 2 in the 11 years I've been entering on there. I'll check out that game. I need a couple for a camping trip we're taking our grandkids on in a couple of weeks. It might be too old for a 4 and 7 year old, though.
