July's Bookish Art...

Otto Vautier -- Young Woman Reading in the Garden

"Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. ... Reading is bliss."
--Nora Ephron

  2. Nora Ephron had a way with words, and I especially love the last three words of this particular quote.

  9. The last few years I've really leaned into reading as an escape. I love the quote - what a wonderful way to express the joy we get from reading. The painting is wonderful too. Looks so calm and warm. Perfect for reading.

And the art is also beautiful. Thanks for a lovely post, Lark.

  17. I am going to repeat what a lot of the other commenters said. I love that quote. I have always considered that I read to escape but now I notice that I tend to read outside of my normal reading (mysteries) and also enjoy fiction where I learn something. And I enjoy seeing how differently topics are handled by various authors. Maybe my approach to reading has changed since I retired and have less stress to escape from (or different stress). And reading, of any kind, is such a large part of my life.

  23. That painting is lovely and I agree with Nora that reading is bliss. I think it's what really saved my mental health during the pandemic.
